Exercises in Style

Child's Play

While at the zoo, sucking on a lolli’ I get into the thing momma call’s a bus.
Mom is just confused because it’s really a submarine. It’s a very large submarine because in front of me sit’s a giraffe. The giraffe wears a coat with no buttons. Suddenly a fish enters the submarine and fights with the giraffe. The giraffe refuses to give up his seat. After the fish leaves the giraffe turn’s and says to me, “why would a fish need to be INSIDE the submarine?”

At the end of the day the zoo is closing, and all the animals start to dream. As we take our ride home from the zoo I look out the window and to my surprise and delight I see the giraffe. The giraffe escaped and finally found some buttons for his coat.

Gertrude Stein Remix

The original:

In the inside there is sleeping, in the outside there is reddening, in the morning there is meaning, in the evening there is feeling. In the evening there is feeling. In the feeling anything is resting, in feeling, anything is mounting, in feeling there is resignation, in feeling there is recognition, in feeling there is recurrence and entirely mistaken there is pinching. All the standards have steamers and all the curtains have bed linen and all the yellow has discrimination and all the circle has circling. This makes sand.

The remix:

In the air there is stillness, in the sky there is space, in the morning there is a question. In the morning there is a question. In questions there are answers, in questions, anything can happen, in questions there is hurt, in questions there is a re-evaluation, in questions there is a sense of love that is entirely mistaken for giving up. All the lovers have hope and all the screamers make judgments and all the progress rewinds and all the circle keeps circling. This makes for a tough decision.
